Mise En Scene
The costume me and Ignatius used compared to Arjun was completely different. When looking at Arjun when he was rapping he was all dressed in a suit and smart shoes whereas me and Ignatius were casually dressed. We were wearing things like hoodies, baggy tops and jeans etc. Our whole music video was not shot indoors at all. We were always filming outside at around 8:00 in the evening. The reason we filmed that late was because we didnt want the video to look weird where the light in the back keeps changing to light then dark. Me and Ignatius had more of a relaxed type of acting whereas Arjun had to act rich in his part. There were no make up used in our music video. The props which were used in our video were the necklaces worn by Ignatius to show he was rich and related to the music video genre. The setting was based in any place where we could actually find the graffiti. As you can see when i am rapping you see alot of graffiti behind me and it is mostly the background for my whole scene.
Teaser Trailer
This is our final version of the trailer which we have put on YouTube. This is the trailer to Look At Me Now - Tignatius feat Tinie Turban and SK
Our Album Cover
Me and adnan both wanted to make an album cover so we both decided to make a front cover to see who's one looked better. The one which looked better would then be our final front of the album cover. The one shown above is the our final album cover which was produced by Adnan. The picture was one we took in Windsor again. We found a wall behind Ignatius's flat which was where we took the picture. Our music video was also filmed there on some parts of our music video.
I decided to do the ancillary task for my group because i really wanted to get use to using Adobe Photoshop and wanted to check out the effects you can make when creating an album cover. As you can see above, this is how the album cover ended out.
Target Audience Analysis
Our music video we have made for our A2 media studies coursework which was Look At Me Now by Chris Brown is a Rap/R&B. Rap is a huge genre under the subject of music. There are different kinds of rap such as old school or new school. There are different types of rap which appeal to different age groups. Such as rappers like Slick Rick or Foxy Brown appeal more to an older age around aged around 30 and above whereas rappers which are around now such as Drake, Lil Wayne and Trey Songz appeal to the younger group aged from around 16-29.The target audience for our rap video would be around 55% male and 45% female. There are two reasons why i say this music video is more towards the male side in the target audience, one reason to why i say it is more of a male song, which is because there aren't any women at all rapping in the video and three guys are and quite a few women are involved in the video. The reason why i say there is only a 5% difference between male and female is because the beat is more of a slow dancing beat which women usually like more then men. Just like any other rap video it all depends on money, women and cars and some talk about guns and crime. Ours is a of mix, it's a little about women, money and guns. There are many channels which might actually play our video which are channels like Flava, MTV Base or Channel AKA. The reason why this type of music video would be most likely to show on these channels are because these channels mostly show hip hop/rap and R&B songs. The target audience under the rap genre has changed alot ever since back in the days. Before when rappers like 2Pac were around they would rap mostly about their lives which appealed to everyone whereas nowadays you either like rap or you hate it. It isn't really aimed directly at someone.
There are four of the seven types of people who our video would appeal to. The four types of people are video appeal to are Explorers, Aspirers and the Mainstream.
The Explorer
The main aim of our music video to Look At Me Now - Chris Brown is to promote the rappers who are shown in the song. The same applies to any other group who are creating a music video. For us, not only does it promote Chris Brown but it also promotes the three rapping in the music video who are Tignatius, Tinie Turban and SK. The explorers are then the ones that discover the new things which have been added. Not only did it have our own lyrics, but each of us had our own style when it came to rapping.
The Aspirer
The music video we have made which is Look At Me Now - Chris Brown will majorly attract the Aspirers. The reason to why it will attract them so much is because each of the rappers included in the video each have their own style and look when rapping. Tignatius was more of a dancer when it came to singing and he was wearing casual clothes. SK was more of a laid back style. He had more of a gangsta style when it came to filming the way you saw him rapping about money, guns and women. The way he dressed was more towards the gangsta side, due to the way he was wearing hoodies, Evisu jeans, Hi-Top shoes and flashy clothing. You could clearly tell he was apart of the Middle class group. Finally Tinie Turban, he was dressed more like a boss the way he was all suited up in each of his scenes. You could clearly tell he was apart of the upper class group.
The Mainstream
The reason why our music video is appealing to the Mainstream audience is because the origins of the song already Look At Me Now by the mainstream artist known worldwide Chris Brown. This music video we have made will definitely have a huge audience around the world that this video would appeal to as it relates to most classes.
Location Shots
These were pictures we took in the Skate Park in Windsor.
Opposite the Skate Park was the second place where we started filming. It was a playground which we found which had a cool piece of graffiti which was sprayed around the court. We though graffiti would be good in the background for a music video as it gives that gangsta theme.
The final place we filmed was underpass, again it was by the skate park. The reason we filmed in the underpass was that there were more graffiti which also gave the gangsta theme.
Textual Analysis 2
I’m on one- Dj Khaled
In the video of Im on one by Dj Khaled there are many different camera shots used within the music video. Such as close ups, establishing shots and two shots. To start off with, as you see straight away in the video the credits appear saying who sings the song or who produced it, which also comes along on medium close up shots of the producer. There are a lot of medium close up camera shots used in this video. Medium close ups are used quite frequently in music video because not always does it show all the artists that sing the song. So in this video it has many medium close ups of Drake as he sings the chorus. The medium close ups shows his movement as he raps and it also shows a little of the background. Secondly I will talk about the close ups. The close up shots are used quite a lot especially when Lil Wayne is rapping the camera keeps zooming into his face as he raps in the video. There is also the shot taken near the end of Drake holding that glass which related to the lyrics as he was singing because he mentioned drinks in the chorus. Another close up was shown about half way through the video again as Drake was rapping in one section in the chorus a bottle was being poured into a glass. Finally I will talk about the Establishing shots which were used but not as much as the medium close ups or the close up shots or the artists. There were about three establishing shots used in this music video 2 in which were showing the location they were in. Just by looking at it you can tell they are rich. The other establishing shot I noticed was the ones which were taken in the beginning where Drake just opens the song, there is an establishing shot which shows all his group/crew around him.
Next I will talk about the sound used in the video of Im on one. Straight away, by hearing the tune and the beat to this song you can notice it’s a hip hop/ rap video. Straight away in the beginning you hear the producer saying his name which also shown who the song is actually by.
I will now talk about the Mise En Scene which was involved in the video. All the people in this video were wearing the same sort of things like baggy tops, track suits, hoodies and jeans. The light throughout the whole video was just from light bulbs, no natural lighting was involved. There were a lot of props used in this video to let people know it was a rap video and were trying to make themselves look rich. Such as the gold necklaces, the cups which related to the lyrics, the bottle of Bartenura Moscata wine, the hats and hoods wore by each of the rappers. Finally the location/setting of the video was shown in one of the establishing shots taken in the video showing New York, showing the big buildings but mainly it was set in an apartment where it shown all the other people just relaxing.
There weren’t many types of editing I found in this music video of Im on one by Dj Khaled. The main one really that I found out from watching the music video was at the beginning of the video you saw it raining when you saw Dj Khaled and the lady holding the umbrella’s, that scene was shown at the beginning and it looked as though that video was sort of being rewound at the end of the music video when you see the raindrops moving up instead. This was what made the video very effective due to there has only been 2 or 3 previous videos which have actually had a scene where the video rewinds to what happens in the beginning. In a way you can call a video, which uses this editing technique a unique video
As shown in the video when the artists are rapping in the song you can tell that they are gangsters, the way they use slang in their speech and the way they sound when rapping. The way they acted in the video was in like a chilling mood which also shown they are gangsters which related to the rap genre a lot.
The genre of the music video is hip hop/rap, which you will instantly notice when first listening to the song just by the way it sounds. It was easy to recognise that this song was going to be a rap video just by the looking at the artists who are featured in it and the producer of the video also gave it away that it was going to be rap.

Fast Lane
To start off with, the first way in which Fast Lane- Bad Meets Evil (Eminem ft Royce Da 5’9) is that they both share the same genre which is rap. The second way in which they sort of relate is that both of the songs are shot in one place for example Bad Meets Evil was shot in a warehouse throughout the whole video, and our music video is going to be shot in a skate park. There is a massive amount of editing used in the Fast Lane music video for example the way the words just spring their way into the screen while Eminem and Royce Da 5’9 are rapping. Another piece of editing which made the video look so good was that there were random cartoon characters that just pop into the video and move as though they are real characters e.g. when Eminem drains the lady in the fish tank, then hits the floor and walks off in a strop also related to the lyrics as they rapped. It was a very unique video the way one minute they were in a cartoon and then back to normal. There were also a load of cuts which is known as frequent cuts. The way cuts were going so quickly actually related to the tune itself the way it was quite a fast song. It was also really good when at the end the name “Bad Meets Evil” just pops out to show who it’s by, not many artists do this at the end of songs. There were a lot of different types of camera shots used in the video such as things like medium shots which was used quite often in the video. Medium shots or close ups are the main types of camera shots used when in the process of making a music video because usually people want to be seen when they rap instead of just rapping in the background. There was a lot of mise en scene used in the video for example as soon as Royce Da 5’9 said 80’s in his first verse randomly he jumped into a white jumpsuit which also went along with the rap genre the way he was dressed. Another really good piece of editing was as they were rapping the lyrics the words they were saying were appearing and they were just hitting them all over the place like when Royce Da 5’9 said “spin em round” he actually spun the words as he said that which made the video really effective.

Fame
To start off with, when you first set your eyes on this album cover, if you look carefully it looks like a piece of graffiti with the mix of pictures of Chris Brown and the way that Chris Brown is written on the bottom left hand side of the album cover. As you can see it’s a very colourful album cover for an R & B artist, you wouldn’t think it would be packed of so many colours because usually they just stick to one or two colours as seen below. The Graffiti album cover shows a massive difference in colour as you can see below. When more colours are involved in an album cover especially bright ones can attract the attention of the audience.
In this album cover there was only really one colour apart from the cartoon characters on the bottom right. If you were to compare Chris Brown’s album cover to any other R & B artist’s album cover, Chris Brown’s will always be the most eye catching towards the audience. The way Chris Brown lays his album covers out are unique due to the fact that most artists would just have plain text on the top hand side of the cover rather than at the bottom which is what Chris Brown does.
Here is a picture of Rihanna latest album called Loud. Exactly as I described above there is a close up of her face and the album name is also there and visible on the bottom. Her name is not shown. Not all artist’s show their names on their album cover’s because most people would already know who the artist is just by looking at the picture.
If you was to compare Chris Brown’s album cover to an R & B artist like Rihanna you would notice there is a huge difference in the layout and colour the way most of Rihanna’s album covers are just a close up of her face and then on the top left will be her name and the name of the album. To some that may be a boring look of an album cover because if you think about it, it is just basic. But on the other hand, Chris Brown has usually got his whole body or sometimes even half his body in the album cover which also would have either another artist or some sort of cartoon in for example Chris Brown’s fan of a fan mixtape had a picture of him and Tyga or his album Graffiti as you can see above had five different coloured monster’s.
