Textual Analysis

Fast Lane

To start off with, the first way in which Fast Lane- Bad Meets Evil (Eminem ft Royce Da 5’9) is that they both share the same genre which is rap. The second way in which they sort of relate is that both of the songs are shot in one place for example Bad Meets Evil was shot in a warehouse throughout the whole video, and our music video is going to be shot in a skate park. There is a massive amount of editing used in the Fast Lane music video for example the way the words just spring their way into the screen while Eminem and Royce Da 5’9 are rapping. Another piece of editing which made the video look so good was that there were random cartoon characters that just pop into the video and move as though they are real characters e.g. when Eminem drains the lady in the fish tank, then hits the floor and walks off in a strop also related to the lyrics as they rapped. It was a very unique video the way one minute they were in a cartoon and then back to normal. There were also a load of cuts which is known as frequent cuts. The way cuts were going so quickly actually related to the tune itself the way it was quite a fast song. It was also really good when at the end the name “Bad Meets Evil” just pops out to show who it’s by, not many artists do this at the end of songs. There were a lot of different types of camera shots used in the video such as things like medium shots which was used quite often in the video. Medium shots or close ups are the main types of camera shots used when in the process of making a music video because usually people want to be seen when they rap instead of just rapping in the background. There was a lot of mise en scene used in the video for example as soon as Royce Da 5’9 said 80’s in his first verse randomly he jumped into a white jumpsuit which also went along with the rap genre the way he was dressed. Another really good piece of editing was as they were rapping the lyrics the words they were saying were appearing and they were just hitting them all over the place like when Royce Da 5’9 said “spin em round” he actually spun the words as he said that which made the video really effective.
